Today in class students from Colquitz Middle School came and taught us about Minecraft!
I found it really interesting when the teacher began discussing how she uses a Minecraft Challenge as a method of formative assessment. She has the students design a creation competition for their peers and then host the competition. It usually involves a time limit, and a creative outline so the people participating know what they need to make in the Minecraft world. After the time limit the students judge each creation and can announce a winner or provide scores.
This is super interesting because it allows the students competing to discover how much they actually know by testing their knowledge under a time limit. It also allows the students who have been teaching to understand how much their learners know, what they taught effectively, and what could use more time.
